Come and celebrate Halloween with a special evening tour of the Highland Village by lamp light, complete with storytelling, skits and special effects. The tour is followed by a storytelling session in "The Tuning Room" with fuarag, oatcakes and more. This is a family activity enjoyed by all.

Prepaid reservations are required. No refunds or discounts. Cost $12 per adult, $28 per family, or $5 per student. Call (902) 725-2272 for tickets. (7-9 pm each evening).

Cape Breton Step Dance - John Gibson

Join us for a lecture on Cape Breton Step Dance and the importance of the Nova Scotia Gaidhealtachd to its study from John Gibson. This lecture series is named in memory of the late Joe Neil MacNeil (Eòs Nìll Bhig) one of Cape Breton’s foremost Gaelic storytellers in recent times. The lecture will take place in the tuning room.

Am Breacan Bòidheach Fàsanta: Mary’s Bonny Plaid - Natural Dye Workshop

Using natural dyes to add colour to the cloth and yarns that pioneer women made was an important aspect of 19th century life. If you have ever wondered what materials were used to produce such a wide range of hues, please join us for an afternoon of wool dying. Participants will learn about various dyeing techniques and will be able to dip a few skeins of their own.

Pre-registration required. Workshop is open to all ages. Admission is $10. (10:00 am -12:00 pm).

Join us for a fun, afternoon of Gaelic arts. Fiddlers, step-dancers, pipers, and more, come together to treat visitors to traditional Nova Scotia Gaelic culture in this outdoor concert overlooking the Bras d’Or Lakes.

2012 marks the 51st Annual Highland Village Day Concert, one of Cape Breton Island’s original Outdoor Scottish Concerts.

2-6 pm.

Come satisfy your taste buds with a feed of salt cod, potatoes and all the trimmings of a traditional Cape Breton salt cod supper. If you don’t cotton to cod, hot dogs are available upon request. Backstage, 3-6 pm. $15 adults, $8 child plate, $2 hot dog. No refunds or discounts. HST exempt. Dinner admission includes entry to the Highland Village Museum.

Please note that this is our only Codfish Supper for 2011.
